Benidorm : alla scoperta della New York del Mediterraneo

Nel mese di ottobre, grazie all’ente del turismo spagnolo, ho avuto la possibilità di conoscere di persona la famosa New York del Mediterraneo: BENIDORM.
Principalmente rinomata per i suoi numerosissimi grattacieli, questa cittadina della Costa Blanca, situata a metà strada tra Alicante e Valencia, riserva ai suoi turisti molto ma molto di più.

La sua posizione strategica, affacciata sul Mar Mediterraneo da una parte e circondata dalle montagne dall’altra, garantisce un clima con temperature elevate tutto l’anno.

Le sue ampie spiagge di sabbia fine e dorata sono tra le migliori d’Europa e si trovano in pieno centro; si dividono in  Playa de Levante, la più conosciuta e frequentata dai turisti; e la Playa de Poniente, più accogliente e tranquilla; separate tra di loro dal piccolo porto che permette agli appassionati di praticare numerosissimi sport acquatici.
Il vecchio castello, ora Balcòn del Mediterràneo, offre una splendida vista di Benidorm.

Arrivati all’aeroporto di Valencia, c’era ad aspettarci un autista che ci ha accompagnati al bellissimo hotel luxury che ci ha ospitati per tutto il nostro soggiorno: Asia Gardens Hotel & Thai Spa.
Immerso in una pineta e situato sulle montagne della Sierra Cortina, questo imponente hotel ***** in stile thailandese vanta splendide viste sulla Costa Blanca, 7 piscine all’aperto e una spa.

In questo splendido paradiso ci si può godere un massaggio thailandese in una delle palafitte immerse in incantevoli giardini, con varie fontane in stile asiatico e piscine a sfioro; a libero uso dei clienti, un centro fitness ed una spa con piscina riscaldata coperta e vasca idromassaggio.
La struttura ospita 3 bar e 4 punti ristoro, tra cui il ristorante a buffet Udaipur, un ristorante asiatico à la carte e un ristorante di cucina mediterranea e internazionale.

Last October, thanks to the Spanish tourism office, I had the opportunity to know the famous New York of the Mediterranean Sea: BENIDORM.
Mainly renowned for its many skyscrapers, this city on the Costa Blanca, located halfway between Alicante and Valencia, offers its tourists much, much more.

Its strategic position, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea on one side and surrounded by mountains on the other one, guarantees a climate with high temperatures all year round.

Its wide beaches of fine and golden sand are among the best in Europe and are located in the city center; they are divided into Playa de Levante, the most famous and frequented by tourists; and the Playa de Poniente, more welcoming and quiet; separated from each other by the small seaport that allows to practice numerous water sports.
The old castle, now Balcón del Mediterràneo, offers a splendid view of Benidorm.

Arriving at the airport in Valencia, there was a driver waiting for us who took us to the beautiful luxury hotel that hosted us for our entire stay: Asia Gardens Hotel & Thai Spa.
Nestled in a pine forest and set in the Sierra Cortina Mountains, this impressive Thai-style ***** hotel boasts stunning views of the Costa Blanca. It features 7 outdoor pools and a spa.

In this beautiful paradise you can enjoy a Thai massage in one of the stilt houses immersed in enchanting gardens, with various Asian-style fountains and infinity pools; free use of the customers, a fitness center and a spa with heated indoor pool and Jacuzzi.
There are 3 bars and 4 dining options, including the Udaipur buffet restaurant, an Asian à la carte restaurant and a restaurant serving Mediterranean and international cuisine.

Il mio soggiorno spagnolo comincia con un veloce pasto in uno dei punti ristoro dell’hotel ed un po’ di riposo nella mia splendida Deluxe room, prima di incontrarci con Laura dell’ente del turismo e tutto il team italiano e francese e partire alla volta del centro città; qui, dopo un breve giro perlustrativo per iniziare a conoscere Benidorm, ci siamo diretti verso il rinomato Balcòn del Mediterràneo dove abbiamo potuto ammirare un tramonto mozzafiato sul mare; per concludere in bellezza la serata, abbiamo cenato in un tipico locale spagnolo dove abbiamo gustato le famose tapas: La Taperia.
Dopo cena, abbiamo fatto ritorno in hotel per “ricaricare le batterie” e poter cominciare, così, una nuova giornata a Benidorm.

My Spanish stay begins with a quick meal in one of the hotel’s dining options and a little rest in my splendid Deluxe room, before meeting up with Laura from the tourism agency of Benidorm and the whole Italian and French team and leaving for the city center; here, after a short walk to start knowing Benidorm, we headed to the renowned Balcón del Mediterràneo where we could admire a breathtaking sunset over the sea; to round off the evening, we had dinner in a typical Spanish restaurant where we enjoyed the famous tapas: La Taperia.
After dinner, we returned to the hotel to “recharge the batteries” and could start a new day in Benidorm.

Il secondo giorno la sveglia suona presto perchè ci aspetta una bellissima Bike excursion con TAO BIKE dal centro città e per la prima volta ho provato la bicicletta elettrica; super comoda per affrontare le salite e arrivare in cima per ammirare il panorama di Benidorm dall’alto, anche se la mia solita sfortuna non mi ha abbandonata nemmeno questa volta… La mia bici era rotta!
Per fortuna, dopo pochi metri sono stata subito raggiunta da un ragazzo del bike rent che me l’ha rimessa a posto, pronta per ripartire di nuovo!

The second day the alarm clock rings early because we expect a beautiful Bike excursion with TAO BIKE from the city center and for the first time I tried the electric bicycle; super comfortable to face the climbs and get to the top to admire the view of Benidorm from above, even if my usual misfortune did not abandon me even this time … My bike was broken!
Fortunately, after a few meters I was immediately joined by a guy from the bike rent who fixed the bike, ready to start again!

Ma non è finita qui; perchè dopo lo sport ci aspetta un’esperienza culinaria da far leccare i baffi!
Grazie a Benidorm Cooking Experience ci siamo calati nei panni di chef provetti e insieme ai cuochi professionisti abbiamo imparato a cucinare i piatti tipici spagnoli: il Gazpacho, le Tortillas e la Paella!
Ovviamente, alla fine della prova, abbiamo mangiato e gustato le nostre “creazioni”.
La cosa super è che prima di cucinare siamo andati tutti insieme a fare la spesa nel mercato locale della città; un tripudio di colori e profumi!

But it did not end here; because after the sport activity we expect a culinary experience!
Thanks to Benidorm Cooking Experience we have fallen into the role of chefs and together with professional chefs we have learned to cook typical Spanish dishes: Gazpacho, Tortillas and Paella!
Obviously, at the end of the lesson, we ate and enjoyed our “creations”.
The great thing is that before cooking we all went shopping together in the local market of the city; a riot of colors and perfumes!

Per concludere in bellezza la giornata, non poteva mancare un giro in elicottero tra i grattacieli di Benidorm!
Il nostro pilota di Heliactivo era super simpatico e anche un po’ crazy e ci ha fatte divertire tantissimo!
E’ stata la prima volta che ho messo piede su un elicottero ed è stata una delle esperienze più belle ed amazing della mia vita!

La sera la stanchezza si fa sentire così, decidiamo di cenare nel ristorante dell’albergo che offre davvero un’ampia scelta di piatti internazionali a buffet e poi, una bella dormita per vivere a pieno il terzo e ultimo giorno.

To round off the day, we could not miss a helicopter ride through the skyscrapers of Benidorm!
Our pilot of Heliactivo was super nice and also a little crazy and he made us so much fun!
It was the first time I set foot on a helicopter and it was one of the most beautiful and amazing experiences of my life!
Have you ever been on it?

In the evening, we were so tired so we decide to have dinner in the hotel restaurant that offers a wide choice of international buffet dishes and then, a good night’s sleep to fully experience the third and final day.

Dopo un sonno ristoratore, tutti pronti per una spettacolare avventura in jeep con Marco Polo Expediciones nel cuore dell’entroterra benidormiano; purtroppo a causa della pioggia non abbiamo potuto godere appieno degli spettacolari paesaggi montanari ma ci siamo divertiti comunque tantissimo, anche grazie al nostro autista che correva all’impazzata tra le stradine di terra battuta che attraversano le montagne circostanti la città.

Tra un sentiero ed un altro, abbiamo fatto tappa in un paesino arroccato sulle alture della Costa Blanca per ammirare la tipicità del villaggio di Guadalest.
Dopo aver percorso a piedi un viale in salita, entrando attraverso una porta ci siamo trovati davanti l’entrata del castello ed una piazzetta acciottolata dal cui belvedere ci si può innamorare del panorama, la valle che accoglie un lago artificiale dal colore turchese. 
Qualche sorso di thè caldo in un bar del paese e si riparte per andare a pranzare in un ristorante con vetrata sulla Playa; qualità del cibo un po’ scarsa ma almeno il panorama meritava!

After a restful sleep, all ready for a spectacular jeep adventure with Marco Polo Expediciones in the heart of the Benidorm hinterland; unfortunately due to the rain we could not fully enjoy the spectacular mountain landscapes but we still had a lot of fun, thanks to our driver who ran wildly through the dirt roads that cross the mountains surrounding the city.

Between a path and another, we stopped in a small village on the heights of the Costa Blanca to admire the typicality of the village of Guadalest.
After walking up a path uphill, entering through a door, we found ourselves in front of the entrance of the castle and a small square from whose belvedere you can fall in love with the view, the valley that houses a turquoise artificial lake.
A few sips of hot tea in a bar of the village and we leave to go and have lunch in a glass-fronted restaurant on the Playa; food quality a bit ‘poor but at least the view deserved!

 

Altra tappa del nostro tour alle scoperte delle meraviglie di Benidorm, è all’azienda vinicola Bodegas Enrique Mendoza dove ci viene spiegata con dovizia di particolari la storia della cantina, dei loro vigneti e della scelta del legno per le loro botti; infine, una piccola degustazione, peccato che io non beva vino 🙁 .

Another stop of our tour to the discoveries of the wonders of Benidorm, is the winery Bodegas Enrique Mendoza where we are explained in great detail the history of the winery, their vineyards and the choice of wood for the barrels; finally, a small wine tasting, but I do not drink wine, what a pity! :(.

Tornati in albergo, decidiamo di dedicare un po’ di tempo a rilassarci
in piscina prima di uscire per trascorrere insieme l’ultima sera benidormiana.

Ci aspetta una cena speciale in un posto davvero chic, il ristorante Llum de Mar all’ultimo piano del boutique hotel Villa Venecia, nei pressi del Balcòn del Mediterràneo; una saletta tutta per noi ed un panorama mozzafiato sulla Playa de Levante. E poi il cibo era straordinariamente buono!!

Purtroppo il mio viaggio termina qui; il giorno dopo ho lasciato Benidorm per dirigermi verso l’aeroporto di Alicante e tornare in Italia.
Ringrazio nuovamente @visitbenidorm per avermi fatto vivere questa esperienza unica.

Back to the hotel, we decided to spend some time to relax
in the pool before going out to spend the last Benidorm evening together.

A special dinner awaits us in a truly chic place, the Llum de Mar restaurant on the top floor of the Villa Venecia boutique hotel, near the Balcón del Mediterràneo; a room all for us and a breathtaking view of the Playa de Levante. And then the food was amazingly good !!

Unfortunately my trip ends here; the next day I left Benidorm to head for Alicante airport and return to Italy.
I thank @visitbenidorm again for having made me live this unique experience.
