Finalmente la bella stagione è arrivata, ma stare in una grande città quando fa caldo, a volte è davvero terribile.
I Romani hanno però trovato il modo per sfuggire all’eccessiva calura!
Se quindi vi trovate nella Città Eterna, che per inciso è favolosa nelle sere d’estate, e volete prendervi una pausa dallo shopping e dalle visite ai numerosi monumenti, rifugiatevi nel parco di Villa Borghese, il cuore verde della capitale (osservate la cartina che ho inserito tra le foto e capirete perché si chiama così).
E’ cio che abbiamo fatto io e Mister R. un paio di settimane fa. Dopo aver comprato un pranzo al sacco a base di onigiri (ebbene sì, anche noi siamo “vittime” della cucina giapponese), ci siamo fiondati nel fresco di quest’oasi lussureggiante situata proprio al centro della città.
Arrivati a piazza del Popolo, dovete salire la breve scalinata che conduce alla terrazza del Pincio. Alle spalle della terrazza, dalla quale potete godere di una splendida vista di Roma, si estende il parco di Villa Borghese.
Non riuscirete a visitarlo tutto in una volta…occupa una superficie di ben 80 ettari; e considerate che per estensione, si colloca solo al terzo posto tra i parchi romani.
La villa offre attrazioni per tutti. Potete passeggiare, noleggiare una bicicletta o un risciò, visitare i diversi musei tra i quali è degna di nota la Galleria Borghese, fare un pic-nic su uno dei tanti prati.
Inoltre, il parco ospita un grande giardino zoologico e l’unico teatro elisabettiano d’Italia, il Silvano Toti Globe Theatre, che ogni estate vede salire sul suo palco diverse compagnie teatrali, per mettere in scena le grandiose opere del Bardo.
Infine, per i bambini c’è una ludoteca presso la Casina Raffaello, mentre ai cinefili suggerisco una visita alla Casa del Cinema.
Io e Mister R., considerata la bella giornata, dopo una passeggiata durante la quale ci siamo fermati a guardare le esibizioni di alcuni artisti di strada, ci siamo diretti al laghetto, dove abbiamo noleggiato una barca. Se avete voglia di romanticismo (avete ormai capito che sono una tipa da tramonti e cuoricini), vi consiglio vivamente quest’esperienza.
Fatevi cullare dalla barchetta di legno che silenziosamente scivola sull’acqua, e godetevi una pausa all’ombra del tempio di Esculapio.
Sarà un momento indimenticabile della vostra storia di coppia.
Finally, the beautiful season has come, but being in a big city when it’s hot, sometimes it’s really terrible. But the Romans have found a way to escape from the excessive heat!
If you are in the Eternal City, which is fabulous on summer evenings, and you want to take a break from the shopping and sightseeing of the many monuments, take refuge in the park of Villa Borghese, the green heart of the capital (see the map and you will understand why it is called so).
That’s what Mister R. and I did, a couple of weeks ago. After buying a lunch box of onigiri (yes yes, we are “victims” of Japanese cuisine), we have gone in the cool of this oasis, located in the center of town.
Once in Piazza del Popolo, you have to climb the short staircase that leads to the Pincio terrace. Behind the terrace, from which you can enjoy a splendid view of Rome, the park of Villa Borghese extends.
You will not be able to visit it all at once… it occupies an area of 80 hectares; by extension, it is placed only in the third place among the Roman parks.
The villa offers attractions for everyone. You can stroll, hire a bicycle or a rickshaw, visit the various museums, among which the Borghese Gallery is worthy of note, take a picnic on one of the many meadows. In addition, the park has a large zoo and the only Elizabethan theater in Italy, the Silvano Toti Globe Theater, (every summer you can see on stage several theater companies acting the grandiose works of Bardo).
At last, for children there is a crib library at Casina Raffaello, while for movie makers I suggest a visit to the Casa del Cinema.
Mr. R. and I, considered the beautiful day, after a walk during which we stopped to watch the performances of some street artists, we headed to the pond, where we hired a boat.
If you are romantic people, I strongly recommend this experience.
Let yourself be lulled by the water on the wooden boat and enjoy a break in the shadow of the temple of Esculapius.
